Nest of Your Heart Workshop

Bird nests are such an intriguing object. The random and natural—and sometimes not so natural—materials that birds collect to form their temporary homes differ by species and region. Quite often a nest will include mud, which dries and makes a kind of “bird adobe.” This creates a firm and stable environment to raise those chicks.
Many people love the form, but if you find a nest on the ground and bring it inside to appreciate its beauty, you are usually left with continually shedding dirt and debris.
Join artist Elaine St. Louis in this creative workshop and make a realistic-looking nest for indoor display that will allow you to express your personality through various materials and help to tell your story. We’ll even have some little eggs to complete the project!
Free and open to the public
End your afternoon with a vernissage of Elaine's spectacular paintings of large-scale bird nests. Working as art director and photo stylist for home interior and gardening magazines for most of her career, she developed a strong appreciation for architecture and design. When looking at the nests of songbirds, she sees architecture and design in its purest form, which follows their simple function.
By layering polymer glazes creating a chiaroscuro effect, Elaine interprets the ephemeral nests in giant scale, giving the viewer a bold perspective with which to connect with the delicacy of their construction.
